Internship Benefits – Are you ready to reap the rewards?

Internships are great for businesses and students fresh out of university looking for relevant work. I’ve gathered some of the top reasons why internships are great and why more people need to jump on the intern bandwagon.

Employers:

  • Try-out talent – there’s no better cost-effective way to test your potential applicants , hiring interns whether it’s for a week to 3 months is a great way to test new talent.
  • Great for small and medium businesses – especially for SME’s interns work a treat and offer various benefits including increased productivity, usually interns working for you are a lot more motivated and willing to go above and beyond to make a good impression.
  • Looks good – interns are a great and philanthropic way of supporting students with benefits for you and your business too.
  • Low cost labour – especially for start-ups this is a great way of getting things done whilst not losing out, every little counts!

Students:

  • Getting experience – I know how difficult it is to find experience and even harder to find relevant experience. Internships are a great way of actually having an hand-on approach and getting stuck in whilst getting that all important experience!
  • Possible full time position – this is a great way to meet new people, liaise and make a great impression for a potential full time position at the end of your internship.
  • Test the field – its one thing studying at college or university but it’s another thing actually experiencing it first hand, you never know you might decide. You may realise this isn’t what you enjoy after all or you might be even more motivated after realising you love this field of work, either way it’s really important to testing out the field.
  • Great for your CV- this can turn your mundane and in most cases non skilled resume into an impressive skilful CV to show off to future employers.
  • Getting your foot in the door- the hardest thing that can you do when first coming out of university or college is getting your foot in the door it seems that every place you apply to wants you to get experience before you can get more experience.. Rubbish right? From personal experience the best thing I can advise students is to get into an internship, paid or not this will be the best experience you will find and will line you up with a great chance of finding your next job.
  • Networking- this is something all students should take note of, whether you’re still at university or working. Make use of every connection you have, great ways to do this are creating business cards that are always handy and making sure you introduce yourself whenever you can. Internships are great ways to find like-minded professionals and people that are always on the lookout for new talent for their businesses.

So now after hearing all those pluses about intern programmes, are you ready to reap the rewards?

It’s a no brainer if you ask me!
