One thing that can be quite hard for green-fingered growers can be plant pots. providing you don’t kill it, you want your plant to grow. The problem is as your plant grows, it gets too big for your plant pot.
OK, it’s not the biggest problem in the world but it’s definitely a frustrating one and one that we’d love a great idea to solve.
Enter Begum and Bike Ayaskan who are graduates from the Royal College of Art. They’ve designed this plant pot that grows with your plant.
As your plant and its roots grow and take up more room, the origami form of the pot grows with them, expanding to accommodate the plant.
Each of the pots can grow to five times its original volume: made from polypropylene and tessellating triangles the roots can either push the pot out or you can do it with your hands.
The designers, who are twins, have set up Studio Ayaskan. It’s about developing a stronger connection between nature and the environments we surround ourselves with. In nature everything grows and evolves, yet the things we surround ourselves with often stay static. They say they are merging nature and the manufactured object.
Inspired by origami this could be the perfect solution for those who want to bring nature into their homes, in more ways than one.
